Ashford Castle, a testament of history and luxury nestled in the heart of County Mayo, has revealed its 2024 Easter egg—a masterpiece crafted by Paula Stakelum, the esteemed Global Director of Chocolate and Patisserie at Red Carnation Hotels. Known affectionately as Paula Pastry, Paula has once again exceeded expectations with an intricately hand-painted Easter egg that pays homage to the castle's rich heritage and exceptional craftsmanship.

Drawing inspiration from the meticulous craftsmanship that has defined Ashford Castle since its establishment in 1228, Paula Pastry has meticulously designed an Easter egg that stands as a symbolic representation of the artistry woven into the very fabric of the castle. The limited-edition egg is not just a sweet treat; it is a testament to the enduring legacy of Ashford Castle.

Crafted using Ashford Castle’s signature Valrhona ‘Legend’ 55% milk chocolate and filled with ‘Legacy’ 29% chocolate shards, the egg captures the essence of luxury. Valrhona, renowned as the finest chocolate in the world, is exclusively chosen for its superior quality. The cocoa beans used are sustainably sourced, aligning with Ashford Castle’s commitment to sustainability and responsible sourcing.

The exterior of the egg mirrors the intricate grain of wood, paying homage to the hand-carved techniques employed centuries ago to fashion the wooden shutters adorning The Connaught Room, where Ashford Castle serves its iconic afternoon tea. Adding a touch of historical authenticity, each egg is adorned with a brass knob—a precise replica of the knobs affixed to the shutters in 1852 during Sir Benjamin Lee Guinness's substantial restoration project. Available for €75, the 2024 edition of Ashford Castle’s Easter eggs will be exclusively available in-store from Mrs Teas Boutique & Bakery on the Ashford Castle estate from 1st March.
